One Internet Connection Between Two Ubuntu Machines

How To Share One Internet Connection Between Two Ubuntu Machines

A lot of the time, there seems to be all of these different situations for people (including myself) that they want to connect one computer to the internet, through another one, or some other zany method of some sort.
This may be because they can't find another wireless router for their computer, or that they don't have anything else laying around at the time. This rather simple howto will show you how to connect an Ubuntu machine to the internet, through another computer via Ethernet cable.
 1) On the wireless computer that is already connected, right click the Network Manager applet and click Edit Connections. Create a new wired connection and give it a name, it can be anything. I made mine 'brian_is_awesome'. Once you have proceeded to do this, go ahead and click on the iPv4 tab under the new connection and select 'Shared to other computers'.2) Apply your changes, and then save them. Now you can exit the network manager.
3) Once you are back to your desktop, plug in your Ethernet cable. If the wireless computer wants to connect to 'auto eth0', just disconnect it. This connection is not necessary. Connect it to the new wired connection that you just created.
4) And just as simple and quick as that, the other computer that was unconnected should now be able to connect and get internet access through the wireless computer through the Ethernet cable.
Now this may seem almost too simple to do something that is so complex. Well, that is the advantage of Linux sometimes, my friends. It just lets you do those kind of things, even if it doesn't really make very much sense
Also, one more thing, if the steps above do not work instantly, try reconnecting the wireless computer to the new connection. In my case, this usually seems to fix anything that has messed up.
